James ‘Shamus’ Dilts, Canadian Certified Counselor – MA (MFC), CCC
I ‘ve lived in or visited 9 of the 10 provinces in our great country and have had interactions with people from diverse backgrounds, including settled Canadians and recent immigrants/refugees, and families from all income ranges. I’ve enjoyed doing prison ministries at both adult and youth detention/correctional facilities, as well as a chaplaincy at a seniors’ complex.
My work experience has included labouring on a lobster boat, jobs in multiple different factories, and working with an excavation/construction company. My background helps give me a intuitive understanding in providing counselling to people from all walks of life.
I’ve had diverse counselling experiences, including a private counselling business, and providing related services in a community college, as well as a number of religious/spiritual settings. I’ve provided individual, couple/marriage, and group counselling over the years and have even taken part as a therapist in an experimental addiction treatment study.
Personal experiences include working with children and adults who have ADHD, ODD, Autism, and learning disorders. My professional training in ADHD and my master’s research have dealt with ADHD in families and marriages. My current personal development focus is in autism, so that I can better serve that community.
My professional education includes a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Counselling. My specializations are: anxiety, depression, marriage/couple, family, and spiritual/Christian counselling, along with ADHD and autism.
